As a professional journalist, I've written hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles since 1997, with natural and cultural history and outdoor recreation being my chief interests. Over the years, I've dabbled in newspaper and magazine features, business profiles, book reviews, articles for children, grant writing, writing for nonprofits, newsletter articles and writing articles for websites. In recent years, with more focus on guidebook writing (and five years juggling a full-time job), my article writing slacked off significantly. I currently write features for Pilot Getaways, where I'm a contributing editor, and articles for Miles Media that promote Florida destinations for VISIT FLORIDA and their other Florida tourism clients. I also write a column about Florida travel for OurGenerationFlorida.com Now that I'm back to full-time freelancing, I'm ramping up the queries again, so look for me in a magazine near you! |

As a writer, I read a lot. I read novels for entertainment - and to learn more about the craft of storytelling - and I read a great deal of travel narrative, my favorite genre. Over the past two years I posted a variety of book reviews on my blog and am in the process of moving them to this section of the website. When I hit busy periods, juggling work, articles, and book research, my reading falls off a great deal, and I carry the same book around for weeks. But I always have a stack of books on my bedside table and dresser, patiently waiting for me to get around to them.
